ONE of the most influential and revered acts of the early ninties second wave of black metal, Finland’s Beherit, have announced their first and only Australian tour dates.

Marko “Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance” Laiho’s dark vision of ritualistic black metal and benighted ambience will play shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in early December alongside Queensland’s own twisted death metal horror Portal.

Beherit is from Rovaniemi. Formed in 1989 by Marko Laiho (Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance), Jari Vaarala (Demonic Fornication) and Jari Pirinen (Sodomatic Slaughter), the group aimed to create highly primitive and extreme black metal.
The name Beherit derives from a Syriac word for devil.
Known for their raw sound, avant-garde elements and atmospheric focus, the band developed a cult following through uncompromising music, visuals and live shows.
The group disbanded shortly after releasing the experimental 1993 album Drawing Down The Moon, now viewed as a classic.
Laiho continued the project alone, releasing the dark ambient albums H418ov21.C (1994) and Electric Doom Synthesis (1996). Though fully electronic, these recordings maintained the atmospheric qualities of the band’s earlier black metal work.
Original members Laiho and Pirinen reformed Beherit in 2008 as a four-piece.
Tickets go on sale on July 30.
