A new year, and another tour and festival update for our avid show-going readers. 

FIRST up a reminder – if one needed it – that the Froth & Fury Festival hits Perth in 15 days and Adelaide seven days after that. Playing times for both events have now been released, so check them out below and plan your day. Tickets are still available, but they are getting scarce so don’t delay if you’re thinking about making the trip.

A timely nudge that Finnish doom merchants Swallow the Sun are on tour at the end of next week. Neomantra and Burden Man are supporting at selected shows and tickets are still available.

Furthering the cult metal invasion, Greek gods of death Dead Congregation are back in Australia next month. Returning for their second visit after a legendary run in 2022, the tour package also includes Finnish death/grinders Concrete Winds. The Hobart show is Altar’s Extreme Metal Minifest that also includes interstaters Altars, Growth, Slaughtercult, Crypt Crawler and locals Sanct. TICKETS

Swedish progressive metal giants Evergrey are returning to Australia after almost two decades. The Great Southern Emptiness tour will see the Swedes returning here for their first tour since 2007 with five shows in April and May. TICKETS

Author Brian Giffin

Brian Giffin is a metalhead, author, writer and broadcaster from the Blue Mountains in Australia. His life was changed forever after seeing a TV ad for 'The Number of the Beast' in 1982. During the 90s he wrote columns and reviews for Sydney publications On the Street, Rebel Razor, Loudmouth and Utopia Records' magazine. He was the creator and editor of the zine LOUD! which ran from 1996 until 2008, and of Loud Online that lasted from 2010 until 2023 when it unexpectedly spontaneously combusted into virtual ashes. His weekly community radio show The Annex has been going since 2003 on rbm.org.au. He enjoys heavy rock and most kinds of metal (except maybe symphonic power metal), whisk(e)y and beer.
