TONY Franklin, John Sykes’ band-mate in Blue Murder, has offered his perspective on the guitarist’s apparent posthumous dispute with Australian label Golden Robot.

Sykes – also formerly of Whitesnake and Tygers Of Pan Tang – died in December 2024. GR recently announced it planned to this year put out an EP of his unreleased material, prompting his estate to say Sykes separated from the label in 2019 and should not do so.

“I’ve got to be careful what I say here but I don’t think the label has … well, you mentioned it, that John wasn’t going to give it to them,” bassist Franklin told host Eddie Trunk on Sirius XM.

“I’m pretty sure that he didn’t (give them finished mixes).

“… they are unfinished songs. It sounds like it’s the demos, it’s not the actual masters by the sound of it. I’m just going on what’s been publicly put out there.

“It says in there that John Sykes parted ways with the label in 2019 and I’m pretty sure John would not have wanted this to happen … he would not want demos going out there.”

Speaking on the Faction Talk station, Franklin admitted he had no first-hand knowledge of Sykes’ dealings with Golden Robot, however.

“John told me a lot of stuff but he did not tell me everything because he said ‘I don’t want you to know, Tone’ because he didn’t want me to be in the position where I was in the middle of anything.”
