FANS at Foo Fighters‘ one-off Launceston show had to be listening carefully – but Dave Grohl handed them a couple of scoops about a new album from the band and their Australian tour plans.
The most successful hard rock band in the world today travelled to the Apple Isle to open the $130 million redevelopment of UTAS Stadium, playing a set of close to three hours which included 22 songs.
And Grohl – still easing his way back into the public eye after fathering a child outside his marriage – told the crowd: “This won’t be the last time you see us. We’ll be back here sooner than you think … and it’s before my next birthday.”
“And we might have a whole new record of fucking songs that we just finished the other day.”
The album, the frontman said, had been completed “just the other day”. During the show, Grohl told the crowd the band had arrived 26 hours before the show and would be going home the next day. “I don’t know why the other bands don’t play here,” he said, seemingly unaware it was the opening of the stadium redevelopment.
Grohl also gave more detail on guitarist Pat Smear’ injury from a “bizarre gardening accident’, saying he had suffered a broken leg.
