ROCK and pop musicians are lazier than their contemporaries in other genres, according to Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen.
Speaking on Sirius XM, the axeman was asked about rehearsals and drills musicians do before concerts. Collen said Def Leppard vocalist Joe Elliott warms up for three hours before every show.
“I know so many – especially – rock bands who don’t do that,” he told the Faction Talk station.
“They can’t be bothered to put the work in. It’s like athletes, especially really high level athletes, boxers and that.
“It’s a very small level window and there’s going to be someone amazing who’s going to step into the ring so you’ve bot to be on your top game or you’re going to get knocked out.
“It’s the same as that really but like I said, a lot of rock performers or singers, bands – they won’t put that extra work in.
“There’s almost an amateur or semi-pro thought process.
“Other forms of music, there’s a whole different thing.
“In the genre of rock music, they can get away with it. And pop music. They slide and they can get away with doing less.
“That’s not what we do.”
Meanwhile, an early band of the Leps’ other guitarist, Vivian Campbell, is about to release new material.
Sweet Savage will put out a compilation with some new material. It’s the first time he has worked with the band since Sweet Savage.
