POISON frontman Bret Michaels cancelled a performance at the Mountain Music Festival in Tennessee over the weekend, standing down from all touring from the rest of the year.
Michaels was to headline one night of the Gatlinburg event but pulled out, with a slower than hoped-for recovery from kidney stone surgery prompting him to put all performances on hold.
On Friday night he did return to playing at the Bowl in Sugar Hill Georgia but when he was examined afterwards, his representatives said, it was recommended he have more rest.
The next day, it was announced Michaels 63-year-old Michaels would take the rest of the year off.
A statement read: “Following Bret Michaels’ comeback show at The Bowl at Sugar Hill, doctors and paramedics determined immediately after the show that he still needs additional rest and recovery from his recent surgeries.
“Bret will be taking the next several months off to heal and get back to 100 percent.”
A joint statement was issued by Dr Abby Borhan and someone else described only as “Dr Patel”.
“We will be pulling Bret off the road for the time being,” the statement said.
“He wanted to attempt this show but we feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels.”
Michaels is famously diabetic.
