THE Sweet, seventies rock idols who are still touring, may be the latest band to continue with no original members.
Guitarist and backing vocalist Andy Scott is 77 now and admits health issues have slowed him down significantly when it comes to touring.
He tells Hot Metal that fans will ultimately decide if a version of the band without original members – as is the case with acts such as Foreigner and Little River Band – is a viable option.
But it’s something he is looking at.
“Who knows?” Scott says. “There are American bands with no original members in there.
“Remember, the audience decide. You don’t decide this, whether anything can happen.
“But it would be really nice if the Sweet audience saw a version of Sweet whereby, if I’m still here in two or three years’ time, I don’t play every gig.
“Because, you know, it’s like a footballer. You’ve only got so many years.
“I didn’t think we were going to make 30, never mind (my) seventies.”
Diagnosed with prostate cancer 17 years ago, Scott insists he is still in good health and performing at about 70 percent of what he was in his twenties.
“Look into my eyes. I’m fine. I’m compos mentis. I can still do a crossword. “
