AUSTRALIA’s Golden Robot have released the first posthumous single by former Whitesnake guitarist John Sykes.

The decision of the label, with which Sykes said he had split in 2019, to release his music has sparked intense international debate . Nevertheless, the song “My Guitar” is now available physically and via streaming platforms.

It’s a blazing hard rock stomp with ripping guitar and Sykes’ trademark vocals made famous by Blue Murder. “Thank God for my guitar, the saviour of my life,” sings Sykes, who died in late 2024 from cancer.

In a statement, the label said: My Guitar’was refined and recorded during the sessions John worked on after signing with Golden Robot Records and forms part of the creative body of work he was actively developing at the time that he presented to the label.

“In light of recent speculation surrounding this release, Golden Robot Records wishes to assure fans that this music is being released with the utmost respect, care and affection for John. The release of ‘My Guitar’ is lawfully permitted under John’srecording agreement, and reflects the shared intention, held while he was with us, to complete and present this material properly. This is not a retrospective reconstruction, but a continuation of work that John himself worked on with us.

“Serving as the first glimpse into a four-track EP,‘My Guitar’offers fans an intimate connection to John’screative voice in its purest form. The EP, worked on during his time with Golden Robot Records, will be respectfully released later in 2026, with a clear focus on preserving the integrity of his original vision and honoring his legacy.”
