By DAN SOUTHALL

FINNISH grind kings Rotten Sound have been at this a long time, with a track record of not mucking about.

This eight track EP is total proof of not just their grinding rage but their insistence that music doesn’t have to stick around long to be memorable or good.

True to form, “Recycle” hits the ground like a hyper kid on roller skates, giving barely enough time to take it in as it swirls and heaves past in a flurry of HM2 pedal riffage and blast beats, straight into the slightly slowed opening of “Ride of the Future”, possibly the shortest Entombed track you will never hear.

“Empty Shells” and “Idealist” hang out just enough groove to let the stank face go away, but like everything else here, that isn’t for long.

It would be easy to review every track because it is all over so quickly but instead I will leave you with the following hot take from my notes taken on first listen, as they still feel the most suitable.

The run time of just nine minutes has me thinking “Holy shit!” as the final notes ring out across the room, leaving nothing in its wake but my confused Chihuahuas and a cake-eating grin on my stupid looking face. This is grind, this is some of my favourite music. Get it in your ears, it’s guaranteed to improve the next few minutes of your life.
