SHORTLY after Guns N’Roses returned from their history-making Appetite For Destruction world tour in 1988, I interviewed Duff McKagan by phone from Los Angeles.
He spoke about being treated differently by friends in the wake of the band’s breakthrough success – prompting anger and resentment –Â outlined what happened when Aussies Kings Of The Sun were kicked out of the Sydney Entertainment Centre and seemed to be under the impression GN’R had been banned from Australia as a result!
And the bassist spoke about the songwriting that had begun for what became the Use Your Illusion albums, discussing “a real pretty song – it’s on piano”.
“He plays piano – he’s a really good piano player,” McKagan said of singer Axl Rose.
