Original Alice Cooper Band reforms after 51 years

HE’S always on the road and releasing new music – but at 77 Alice Cooper does one thing more consistently than anything: he surprises.

The latest career move from the shock rock pioneer has come completely without warning: he has reunited with his original band after 51 years for a new album, The Revenge Of Alice Cooper, to be released on July 25.

Aside from Alice, the album features guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway and drummer Neal Smith while guitarist Neil Buxton – who died in 1997 – also appears on one track. The legendary Bob Ezrin is even in the producer’s chair,

The first track, “Black Mamba”. will air for the first time today (April 22), on Alice’s syndicated radio show.

Cooper tells Billboard: “”It was very much like this was our next album after [1973’s] Muscle of Love. Isn’t that funny after 50 years? All of a sudden it just falls into place.”

Cooper went solo in 1975, creating two generations of fans who are oblivious to the fact the moniker originally belonged to a band rather than an individual.

He continues: “On this album it was much more of a band, where each of us had a certain say. It wasn’t like my albums. I’m not gonna have a final say on it; I had one-fourth of the say on it, and that’s the way we always did it.”

Members of the band have appeared on Cooper’s last three albums.
