ACKADACKA celebrated their return to Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last night by performing “Jailbreak” for the first time in 34 years.
The Aussie behemoths have made precious few changes to their setlist since the Power Up! tour kicked off in May last year but Angus and co had a special surprise for the full house at the G, squeezing in their 1976 banger between “Shoot To Thrill” and “Sin City” to a riotous response. All up, the show was a similar length to their previous concert, in Edinburgh – another city of historical significance for the band.
“It’s great to be back in the ancestral home of AC/DC,” vocalist Brian Johnson had said. “We’re gonna have a good time tonight.”
There was no “Hell Ain’t A Bad Place To Be”or Tartan tribute “Fling Thing” but Herald-Sun journalist Nui Te Koha wrote: “The band is in scorching form.
“Guitar hero Angus, 70, resplendent in his ruby red school blazer, tie and cap, with Johnson, 78, at his side, is still king of the class, and teaching others the art of rock, riffs and roll.”
Earlier in the day, a world record for most bagpipe players in the same place was set at Federation Square. The tour continues at the same venue after the now customary three-day recuperation period.
