A DOCUMENTARY about the Hard-Ons which was shelved following the controversial departure of Keish de Silva has been revived and is back in production.
Bassist Ray Ahn tells Hot Metal that a benefactor for the Jonathan Sequeira-directed Hard-Ons: The Most Australian Band Ever has been found and interviewing has resumed.
“The project was never cancelled,” Ahn says.
“What happened was Jonathan Sequeira, the film-maker, needed to raise money to do the project so he did one of those Gofundme things through SBS.
“And SBS the station got right behind it and helped us raise $60,000.
“And then with whatever happened, with the allegations of our former member Keish, the right thing to do was to give all the money back.
“So all the money went back to people who had donated – every cent.”

Ahn continues: “It didn’t mean the project stopped. It meant that all the money that Jonathan needed to pay for things like filming and editing and all that kind of stuff disappeared – al $60,000.
“So what we needed was somebody with a little bit of wealth who liked underground music to come and fund it.
“And that person has come through. That person is now funding it and the movie will be coming out.”
The backer remains a “mystery benefactor” for now.
