KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer and funk metal pioneer Dan Reed have formed a new band, Shogun Mojo.
Bassist Bengt Jonasson and drummer Robert Ikiz round out the project, which has signed to Frontiers Records.
Thayer, 64, and Reed, 63, had been photographed together on social media recently but it was kept under wraps that they had been working together – although the material and recording seems to have been done.
“Collaborating with my dear friend Dan Reed on this project has been an inspiring and rewarding experience from start to finish,” Thayer said in a media release.
“We set out to create something that was both powerful and unique, a dynamic blend of rock and roll, funk and fusion and I truly believe we’ve achieved that. I’m extremely proud of this record and can’t wait for all our fans to hear it.”
Explaining the alliance, Reed said: “Bengt, Ikiz and I have been playing rock trio shows together for over 15 years and when Tommy and I started spending more time together composing songs, it became apparent there was something brewing we just might have to release to the world.
“Writing this album together reminded me why I fell in love with writing songs as a teenager — for the simple fun of it!”
Geoff Dyson and Rob Daiker handled production duties. No release date has been announced.
