BRAZILIAN behemoths Sepultura have announced four Australian tour dates in March.
It’s a farewell victory lap for the thrash legends, who have recently been joined by 21-year-old drumming sensation Greyson Nekrutman and the band assures us these will be their final-ever Aussie dates.
The so-called 40 Years Farewell Tour: Celebrating Life Through Death will move to the US after the tour, with Welcome To Rockville at Daytona Beach on May 7, so expect the boys to be in top form when they hit these shores.
Speaking to the Mystic Festival’s in-house media team about the decision to retire, band principal Andreas Kisser said: “I think it was a great moment.
“The 40-year anniversary is a great mark. We have an amazing history behind us, coming from Brazil, playing almost 80 countries around the world, bringing Brazilian music to heavy metal, thrash metal, to heavy music in general. And we did a great album, [2020’s] ‘Quadra‘, our last one.
“We survived the pandemic situation, the lockdown. I went through also a personal experience with my wife. She passed away after cancer two years and a half ago, and it gave me a whole new perspective of life.
“When you respect finitude, when you respect dying, when you don’t deny that. We have a tendency not to talk about dying, to talk about death in general, and after her passing, a big part of myself died with her.”
If we can editorialise in a news story … you gotta respect that.
