WITH tour dates coming up, Motley Crue will feature on the upcoming season finale of American Idol.

Modern rock purveyors Shinedown are also involved and it has been speculated the Crue will perform 1985 hit “Home Sweet Home” with country star Carrie Underwood.

The episode airs in the States on May 11 on ABC and will see the three finalists perform and undergo judging to  crown the winner, with performances by a broad range of artists also including Gin Blossoms and Blues Traveler.

In 2009, the reality show chose Underwood’s version of “Home Sweet Home” as a feature song.

Motley embark on the Return Of The Carnival Of Sins tour on July 17 with Tesla and and Extreme in support. The Crue are donating US1 from every ticket sold to after-school arts programs in their native United States.

The appearance reflects the continued crossover between classic rock acts and mainstream television entertainment formats, with veteran artists increasingly using high-rating network broadcasts to reach audiences beyond traditional rock radio and touring circuits. Recent American Idol finales have regularly featured established legacy acts alongside contemporary chart performers.

The upcoming tour is expected to be the band’s first extensive run of dates since guitarist Mick Mars ceased touring activity with the group. Mars announced his retirement from the road in 2022 owing to ongoing health issues, with guitarist John 5 subsequently joining Motley Crue’s live line-up.
