DON’T tell them to act like they’re having fun but Novocastrian terrors The Screaming Jets are returning to Britain after almost three decades.
Dave Gleeson’s rockers, who were a big deal around Big Ben between 1991 and 1998, will be making a pilgrimage back to the old country in January, it has been announced. But rather than, to quote their 1991 single, “Living In England”, they’ll be giving in Scotland.
The Jets have been invited to play Bonfest – an annual festival celebrating the life of the one-and-only Bon Scott – at Kirrimuir on April 27.
The band said in a statement: “For The Jets, Bon Scott isn’t just an influence – he’s is a rock n roll hero – no question. He lived it like he sang it – straight up and hard, setting the stories of his wild life to the rock n rollinest band in the world. Gleeso loves him so much he’s even got a tattoo of him on his arm!
“It’s been a while for us between drinks in the UK, & we can’t wait to get back over there, to catch up with old mates, rock out with a Scottish crowd and maybe even sample a wee dram or two while we’re at it.
“We’ll be bringing full-tilt Aussie rock’n’roll with us – no holding back – and we’ll be rockin out with the spirit of Bon in mind!”
The Jets have had a couple of significant line-up changes since the death of Paul Woseen in 2023.
Paul Elliott is on bass and Pete Robinson recently replaced Scott Kingman on guitar.
