AIRBOURNE don’t just take after their Aussie compatriots AC/DC musically – they’re just as secretive about the inner workings of the band.

Since Sydney guitarist Brett Tyrrell played a show in Belgium last week in place of Jarrad Morrice, the Warrnambool whirlwinds have said precisely nothing about what’s going on.

Had incumbent Jarrad Morrice been forced to return home for personal reasons, with Tyrrell just filling in for a few shows?

Or had the man who replaced Morrice in Black Aces now also supplanted him permanently in Airbourne?

Some of the mystery appeared to be solved by Tyrrell’s former band, the AC/DC tribute act Thunderstruck (in which he plays Angus).

The band wrote on Facebook: “Hi rockers I would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Brett Tyrrell who is now the new guitarist in one of the biggest bands in the world of rock … Airbourne.

“Brett would have to be one of the hardest working guitarists and performers around and he definitely deserves every great twist and turn that comes his way.

“Brett was with Thunderstruck Sydney for over 10 years and was consistently the most entertaining and skilful player I’ve ever seen.

“Brett was the complete package as a band member.

“It all happened very quickly and there was no time to do a last show but if you were at North Ryde RSL back in May 2023 that was the one and Brett played as usual like an absolute monster.

“We are deeply saddened to lose our guitarist but at the same time we are very proud of Brett. We are in contact with Brett and wished him all the best just before his first and second show with Airbourne.”
