One of Sydney’s most iconic venues is set to host an event that brings new meaning to the term “hard hitting entertainment”.
Former PWA Tag Team Champions – The Velocities
Australia’s premier professional wrestling organisation – Pro Wrestling Australia, known to fans simply as PWA – is set to invade a venue that not too long ago was set to be levelled.
A quick google of Coogee Bay’s Selina’s Entertainment Centre shows multiple results that the venue was set to be demolished in the name of progress. A $111 million dollar, beachside unit complex to be exact.
For those unfamiliar with Selina’s, the Coogee Bay Hotel’s legendary complex has hosted the odd band you may have heard of, including INXS, Midnight Oil and Nirvana.
It’s hard to imagine any of those bands playing a venue of between 2,000 and 2,5000 people but playing at Selina’s was a right of passage.
PWA’s “Sniper of the skies” Robbie Eagles
The headbanging off the mosh-pit crowds will be replaced by superkicks, clotheslines and suplexes as some of Australia’s biggest Pro Wrestling superstars are set to put on a show like no other.
Fresh off arguably their biggest event at a jam packed Metro Theatre, PWA currently boasts a roster that includes New Japan star Robbie Eagles. The chance to see the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship up close is worth the price of admission alone.
Former PWA alumni include current NXT poster-bad-boy Grayson Waller (who you may recognise at Survivor’s Matty Wahlberg), former WWE Women’s Tag Champions the The IIconics and former NXT North American Champion Bronson Reed.
Although no matches have officially been announced yet, a very unfortunate injury to company Champion Ricky South may necessitate a massive encounter to crown a new champion.
Perhaps PWA’s most popular star – Jessica Troy
The man most likely to step up to represent the company is loathed heel (or bad guy) Unsocial Jordan. Having won a number one contenders match recently it, unfortunately, makes sense that he be next up.
True to his arrogant persona, Jordan never returned my DM message on social media for comment.
No matter what the makeup of the card though, Selina’s will be trading in riffs for biffs on Friday the 27th of May.
It’s great to be seeing one of Australia’s hottest acts tearing it up inside one of Sydney’s most iconic venues.
