SILVERCHAIR have made their first band statement in years – to rule out reforming at the NRL grand final.
Newcastle’s most famous musical export has been under pressure – not least from the city’s most famous footballer, Andrew Johns – to patch things up and play in Sunday’s NRL grand final against Sydney Roosters at Accor Stadium.
Frontman Daniel Johns, drummer Ben Gillies and bass player Chris Joannou have not played together since 2010.
“Is this thing still on? For the first time in ages, the three of us actually agreed wholeheartedly about something: GO KNIGHTS!!!” the statement read.
“It’s all about the Knights this weekend. We love how footy brings this community together, and it’s pretty special watching the whole Steel City get behind the boys.
“Thanks to everyone who’s asked if we’re playing before the game. We’re way too rusty, so sorry, no can do. We won’t be taking the stage, but we’ll be supporting as loudly as everyone else and there in spirit.
“Wishing the Newy players all the luck in the world this Sunday. UP THE KNIGHTS!!! From The Chair.”
