A NEW one-day heavy music festival, Surf’s Up!, will be held at Riviera Beach Club in St Kilda, Melbourne, on February 20.
The event will be headlined and curated by Melbourne band Thornhill. The lineup also features Stand Atlantic, Alpha Wolf, American acts Sace6 and Varials and Australian bands Justice For The Damned, Headwreck, Bloom and Blinder.
The festival is presented by Destroy All Lines and follows the Life’s A Beach event earlier this year, which was curated by Polaris at the same venue.
Thornhill said in a statement: “We’re bringing SURF’S UP! Festival to life. Personally curated by the 4 of us, we are stoked to be joined by some of the best names in Australian heavy music. Expect big riffs, good times and a whole lot of energy. Melbourne, we’ll see you in February!”
Thornhill’s third studio album, Bodies, debuted at number four on the ARIA Albums Chart in 2025 and won Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album at the ARIA Awards as well as Best Independent Heavy Album or EP at the AIR Awards. The band has toured with Sleep Token, Bring Me The Horizon, Architects and Avenged Sevenfold and completed a sold-out Australian headline tour earlier this year.
Stand Atlantic’s fifth album, Godbreath, recently reached number one on the ARIA Albums Chart. Alpha Wolf released Half Living Things in 2024 and has undertaken extensive international touring.
Varials recently released their fourth album, Where The Light Leaves. Sace6 is an American duo whose music combines pop, R&B and metal elements.
The event is restricted to those aged 18 and over.
