DEEP Purple have postponed the remainder of their European and UK tour dates until further notice after singer Ian Gillan suffered an undisclosed medical emergency.
The band first cancelled their concerts on October 31 at the QI Arena in Leipzig, Germany, and on November 1 at the Sporthalle in Hamburg due to Gillan’s hospitalisation.
In a statement released on November 2, Gillan said: “I had a medical problem whilst in Leipzig which required urgent attention at the hospital.
“I was hoping that I would get the all clear to hang on until the end of the tour, but there are very serious risks involved in me doing so.
“As a result, and on the advice of my medical team and management we have made the decision to postpone the rest of the European/UK tour until further notice.
“I’m very sorry about any inconvenience this may cause, but it’s in the best interest all round.”
Affected UK dates include shows on November 18 in Newcastle, November 19 in Glasgow, November 21 in Birmingham, November 22 in Manchester, and November 24 and 25 in London.Loudersound
Further European concerts postponed encompass November 3 in Dortmund, November 4 in Berlin, November 6 in Frankfurt, November 7 in Nuremberg, and subsequent dates in Amsterdam, Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Nantes and Lyon.
The initial announcement regarding the Leipzig and Hamburg cancellations stated that the shows could not go ahead “due to a medical emergency involving Ian Gillan, who is currently hospitalised.”
No further details on the nature of the medical issue or information about potential South American dates in December have been provided at this stage.
