GUITARIST Brad Gillis has refused to answer a question about whether the tracks on a new Night Ranger Best Of are re-records.
“What about those Raiders?” was Gillis’ response to a direct question from radio host Eddie Trunk about whether the original recordings of songs like “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me” had been “beefed up” or re-recorded.
“To answer your question, yes I am a Raider fan.”
The Best Of album is released this Friday and several songs have already been released and fans have noticed considerable differences in the way they sound compared to the original versions and a 1989 Greatest Hits.
Some track listings do add “(2026)” to the titles of “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me”, “You Can Still Rock In America”, “Sister Christian”, “When You Close Your Eyes” and “You Can Still Rock In America”.
“Basically, if you listen to old Night Ranger songs on the radio – even my playlist at home when I play rock music and stuff – a Night Ranger song will come on and you’ll notice it’s just lower in volume,” said Gillis earlier in the interview, conducted on Sirius XM’s Faction Talk station.
“It doesn’t stick with the latest, greatest releases that go up to 10 or 11, that are just jumping out at you.
“So we wanted to go in and remix, remaster on some of these old hits and just up the game, make everything sound huge to be at the level with everything else that’s being released these days.
“So that’s what we did. We did a bunch of old stuff and remixed, remastered and tried to up the game, up the volume and just the intensity of it.”
