IT was a case of one plus one equalling three of four as the Dead Daisies announced the second departure of singer John Corabi.
The former Motley Crue vocalist had told a couple of interviewers over the past month that he was not sure if he was still in the all-star project of Australian impresario and guitarist David Lowy. It was a case of waiting for the phone to ring, he said as he promoted a solo record.
At the same time, they played a one-off show with their former singer and bassist Glenn Hughes that went down well enough for them announce a second.
Then came the Dead Daisies announcement today: “It has come to our attention that John Corabi has decided to leave The Dead Daisies
“We’d like to sincerely thank John for his incredible contribution to the band over the years and wish him nothing but success with his solo career and all his future endeavours.”
It’s an unusual phrase, “it has come to our attention”. If someone had resigned by normal means, they would bring it to your attention by doing so.
The phrasing at least leaves open the possibility that Corabi’s comments in interviews were regarded by Lowy as a resignation.
It’s not the first time a line-up change has been surrounded by a degree of conjecture. In 2024, drummer Brian Tichy said he had been “kicked out” of the band.
Whether this means Glenn Hughes is now fulltime back is uncertain but the band has a significant number of bookings well into next year.
