BASSIST Nick Oliveri was fired from rock innovators Queens of the Stone Age in 2004 – but 22 years seems to heal all wounds.
Late last week the 54-year-old – who has worked with the band in the studio since his dismissal – joined QOTSA on stage in Joshua Tree, California.
He performed with the band on the song “Auto Pilot”, alongside current bassist Michael Schuman Oliveri doing lead vocals. He also walked to the front of the stage and interacted with the audience at the outdoor show.
In introducing Oliveri, Josh Homme described him as “one of the people that I love dearly.” Oliveri took to the stage wearing a suit and tie.
There’s an Aussie angle to the story, too. It was Oliveri’s alleged behaviour towards our very own Brody Dalle – then in a relationship with Homme – that led to his axing back in ’04.
