SINGER Blaze Bayley has been added to Iron Maiden’s Rock’N’Roll Hall Of Fame nomination after initially being omitted.
The identity of band members who will and won’t be inducted is one of many perennial controversies around the Hall, living in the murky space between politics within an act and sometime-snobbishness on the part of the institution.
We don’t know who exactly changed their mind about Bayley, who performed on two Maiden albums, 1995’s The X Factor and 1998’s Virtual XI and was in the band for five years.
But since Maiden dislike the Hall of Fame, it’s doubtful they had an input.
Maiden’s current nomination is their third. Their original guitarist, Dennis Straton, was included in the nomination while Bayley was not. The other band members named on the nomination were: Bruce Dickinson, Janick Gers, Steve Harris, Nicko McBrain, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Clive Burr and Paul Di’Anno.
Bayley told Planet Rock, where he is a host: “I’ve been included in the Iron Maiden list of nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2026. Thank you. I’m very proud.”
The heavy metal icons Maiden are critics of the Hall, however, and are widely expected to snub the ceremony if they get a gong. Australia’s INXS are also among this year’s nominees.
