UNLIKE most bands who these days play the same set throughout months-long tours, anything can change when Guns N’Roses take the stage.
That is not to say that a fight will break out on stage or a riot in the audience – GN’R are no longer dangerous but they remain unpredictable in terms of setlists, even if Axl Rose is punctual to a fault in 2026.
The Gunners tour which will reach Australia in December kicked off at the Tecate Pal Norte festival in Monterrey on the weekend and the boys (the only girl, Melissa Reese, isn’t doing this tour) rolled out no fewer than 26 songs.
Included were two ‘lost’ recently released tracks from the Chinese Democracy era, “Nothin'” and “Atlas”. They had never been played live before.
The band went on at 11.40pm – don’t worry, that’s the time they were supposed to go on – and finished well after 1am. Following their appearance at Back To The Beginning last July, “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” got an airing alongside two other omnipresent covers, “Slither” “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door”, “New Rose” and “Live and Let Die”.
Production wise, there seemed to be a step up in the use of LED screens which now encompass the entire stage.
