CELEBRATED Australian drummer Colin Burgess has died, aged 77.
Burgess was the drummer in one of the country’s most important late-Sixties acts, The Masters Apprentices, from 1968 to 1972, and at various reformation dates in the Eighties and early 00s. In 1973, he was the final member to join the original line-up of AC/DC, playing the group’s debut performance on New Year’s Eve, 1973. He was fired a short time later, apparently, and somewhat ironically, for “being drunk”. He always claimed his drink was spiked.
Burgess later worked with His Majesty, Tiny Tim and various bands with this brother Denny.
Very sad to hear of the passing of Colin Burgess. He was our first drummer and a very respected musician. Happy memories, rock in peace Colin. pic.twitter.com/8jWLXq8TPJ
