THESE days we know almost instantly the last time a song was performed live – you can stand in the front row and ask AI after the opening notes are played.
But legendary Sunset Strip rockers WASP outdid themselves when they kicked off their latest North American tour, playing an early demo – “Mr Cool” – for the first time ever.
The gig was at The Magnolia in El Cajon, California and the deep, deep cut was dropped by Blackie Lawless fourth in the set.
Lawless told the crowd: “I was about 18 years old when I wrote this song. And a bunch of interesting things happened along the way. We did a demo of it.
“It got released as a single by a band that Chris [Holmes, ex-WASP guitarist] and I had a long time ago called Sister. It got sold for $5,000. And I have never, ever played this song live. So I’m doing this for me, and I hope you like it. This is ‘Mr. Cool‘.”
