THE Living End are flying the hard rock flag among the acts to be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame this year.
Chris Cheney and crew and alternative rockers Spiderbait are the closest bands to HM’s wheelhouse in the list that also includes Gurrumul, Jenny Morris, Kate Ceberano and Vika and Linda.
They’ll all get their gongs at an induction ceremony at Carriageworks, Sydney, in June 11 ahead of the annual ARIA awards.
The Living End’s 1999 debut is one of the highest selling Australian albums of all time. “It feels great,” Cheney said in a social media post.
“You can over-analyse it, you can say ‘are we worthy, how did this happen?’
“But at the end of the day this feels great. It’s a validation of what we’ve created. Other people like it. Other people enjoy the music.”
Spiderbait were the first Australian act to top the Triple J Hottest 100 with “Buy Me A Pony” in 1996.
But like the Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Fame, there remains dozens of glaring omissions from this pantheon – Rick Springfield and Jon English to name but two.
