CINDERELLA drummer Fred Coury says he’d be open to a reunion with the band’s surviving members.
In a recent interview with Waste Some Time With Jason Green, Coury shared his thoughts on the possibility. While the death of guitarist Jeff LaBar in 2021 has left an irreplaceable void, Coury said the remaining members are still musically active and maintain a strong bond.
“Well, we all still play our instruments,” Coury said. “Tom [Keifer, Cinderella frontman] is out touring. Eric [Brittingham, bassist] is doing a benefit — Rock For Hope, I believe it’s called. I’m right now playing on Billy Morrison’s record. So we’re all pretty active in playing. We have our chops up. So if something had to happen, if it was, like, ‘Oh my gosh. You guys can save the world. We need to have you play,’ there’s no reason we couldn’t.”
Coury also revealed that he remains in regular contact with his former bandmates, describing their relationship as familial. “I just talked to Eric this afternoon. And I speak to Tom quite often. Yeah, we’re brothers. I mean, first of all, I owe everything to those guys.”
Reflecting on the band’s legacy, Coury shared a personal moment of rediscovery. “The other day I listened to [Cinderella’s third studio album, 1990’s] Heartbreak Station for the first time in 20 years. I hadn’t listened to it from top to bottom. And I forgot some of the songs… All the memories started flooding back. So yeah, it was pretty cool. I feel like I’m a very lucky person.”
Eric Brittingham on a Tribute or Reunion
Bassist Eric Brittingham also weighed in on the idea of a reunion during an interview with Another FN Podcast With Izzy Presley. While he acknowledged the idea of a tribute concert for Jeff LaBar had been floated shortly after his passing, Brittingham expressed reservations about a full-scale reunion.
“It would never be the same without Jeff,” he said. “I see so many bands that it’s like watering down a drink … I wouldn’t wanna go out and do a tour or anything like that. If it’s a one-off thing for a good reason, I would be open to it. Otherwise, remember the band how the band was.”
When asked about the possibility of Jeff’s son, Sebastian LaBar, stepping in for a one-off performance, Brittingham responded positively. “Sebastian’s a great player, he’s a great guy. That would make sense, but I don’t know if that would ever happen.”
Brittingham also noted that Tom Keifer’s solo career, which has spanned over a decade, might be a factor in whether a reunion could materialise. “Tom … he’s really vested in that. And that’s where his heart is. So I don’t know if he would really wanna do it. But I would be open to it [and] Fred would be open to it.”
Tom Keifer on Staying Connected
Frontman Tom Keifer, in a separate interview with Meltdown of Detroit’s WRIF radio station, spoke about his continued connection with his former bandmates. “Fred is really talented … he and I are in touch a lot … he does TV music. He does stuff with sports. I mean, he’s a busy guy.”
Keifer also shared updates on Brittingham’s musical endeavours, noting his involvement in various projects and session work.
