ADDING to a mountain of tragedy in the rock world this year, Limp Bizkit has announced the death of founding member Sam Rivers.
No cause of death has been revealed, although Rivers had suffered health problems over the past decade due to liver problems related to alcoholism.
He and Fred Durst formed Limp Bizkit in 1996 after working together in Malachi Sage. The band’s second album Significant Other was a #1 Billboard hit and Limp Bizkit became one of the biggest musical acts of the early 21st century.
“Today we lost our brother. Our bandmate. Our heartbeat. Sam Rivers wasn’t just our bass player — he was pure magic,” read the band’s tribute on social media.
“The pulse beneath every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound. From the first note we ever played together, Sam brought a light and a rhythm that could never be replaced.
“His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous. We shared so many moments — wild ones, quiet ones, beautiful ones — and every one of them meant more because Sam was there. He was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human. A true legend of legends.”
