SO FAR, there is the smallest hint of a wave in the wake of frontman James Hetfield telling a Las Vegas audience Metallica would not be trying to “influence” them with “agendas”.
High profile manager and Ozzy’s widow Sharon Osbourne – who has offered pro-Israel views in the past – responded “1000 percent” in response and several other less prominent music industry figures have agreed.
But is this the difference between an entertainer and an artist?
Hetfield told the Sphere crowd: “Unless you live in Vegas, you’ve come a long way to spend some time with Metallica,
“Metallica is not here, like some other entertainers, to influence you with their bullshit, OK?
“We are here… no bullshit… we’re here to forget about all the outside shit, OK?”
“Metallica’s agenda is love, energy and heavy music, baby!”
Members of the Bay Area titans are thought to have divergent views of politics and social issues with drummer Lars Ulrich once saying he would leave the United States if Donald Trump became president.
The remarks, delivered during the band’s ongoing Life Burns Faster residency at the Las Vegas venue, did not name any specific artists. They were widely linked to recent debate over performers using concert stages for political statements.
Osbourne shared a clip of the speech on social media and wrote that she agreed “1000 percent”.
