SCOTT Weiland, the troubled former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver singer, died in his sleep on December 3, 2015, with a medical examiner later diagnosing an accidental overdose.
To mark the anniversary of his passing, a previously unreleased song – “If I Could Fly” – has been released. It was co-written Weiland and producer Doug Green, who worked with both STP and Velvet Revolver, 25 years ago.
The media release from record company Primary Wave/Virgin reads:”This marks the first unveiling of original, unreleased material from the Scott Weiland archive since his passing.
“Written in 2000 after the birth of his son, the song captures Weiland at a deeply personal and inspired moment, showcasing the emotional depth that defined so much of his work.
At the time of writing, Weiland’s son Noah was preparing to play a show in honour of his father in Orange Country with Sublime frontman Jakob Nowell.
