THEY’RE finally being turned loose on Australia – and they’re lovin’ every minute of it.

Canadian rockers Loverboy, most famous for their 1981 hit “Working For The Weekend”, will be headliners for an indoor festival called Wanstock, which will be held at the Shoppingtown Hotel in Doncaster Victoria and the famous Selina’s in the Sydney’s Coogee Bay Hotel.

Formed in Calgary in 1979, Loverboy are still fronted by singer Mike Reno and are much beloved in North America, having opened for Sammy Hagar on his Best Of All Worlds tour last year.

Organiser Geoff Wansbrough said in a statement: “For this next event, I am particularly proud to be bringing Loverboy to Australian shores for the first time.

“The line-up for both nights is stacked with talent, including hall of famers 1927, Dragon and Pseudo Echo. It is bound to have you rocking out all night.”

Recalling opening for ZZ Top in the early days, guitarist Paul Dean recently told Classic Rock: “I remember one gig in Cape Cod when all hell broke loose so I put on my [baseball] batter’s helmet while the audience threw cigarette lighters, bottles, ice cubes and coins – it all came raining down on us.

“We managed four songs before being booed off stage. That was a wake-up call, I can tell you.”

The shows are on March 20 and 21.
