Gig review: Temtris, Taliesin, Chariot Arcana and Endless Grin at Basement Belconnen, February 24 2022

By SKOTT WILLIAMSON

I SHALL begin my review by stating this is of a gig I attended a wee while back now, although the potency of which has yet to leave me.

It was at the infamous Basement in Belconnen, ACT. First up was a mighty outfit called Endless Grin. These guys honestly surprised me with their technical proficiency and molten energy upon the stage!.The lack of merch on offer only served to make me truly hunger to hear more from these tremendous performers. A prodigiously talented band and definitely one to watch for in the future.

Next to hit the stage was Chariot Arcana. This was not so much a performance, more like a sonic experience of monumental proportions! Musically, these guys are phenomenally talented but what I found truly captivating was that their songs were each a journey unto themselves! It also helped in no small part that the bassist performed like a truly possessed beast. A true sight and sound to behold!
The mighty Taliesin strode out next with a gargantuan mix of traditional heavy metal and more modern contemporary overtones. I was in awe of these Canberra veterans; they truly commanded the stage and effortlessly delivered the goods.
The headline spot was granted to Nowra’s Monsters Of Metal, Temtris. I defy anyone to witness this band live and not feel empowered and energised by their presence. They’re such a gifted group of performers and they only seem to improve vastly with each release. Temtris do not simply play metal, they are the high priests and we are the fevered flock of worshippers baying at their righteous cacophony.
All in all, a spectacular night of merriment and fine music was had by all. I have no doubt that each of these formidable bands will continue to carry their own monikers to the adoration of many for many more years yet.
