FOR decades he seemed indestructible but Glenn Hughes, the Voice of Rock, has suddenly retired.
While the former Deep Purple and Black Sabbath frontman may record in future, he has hung up his touring boots at the age of 74 because of heart trouble. He will shortly undergo surgery.
“This past year, I’ve had some health issues,” Hughes, who had also recently returned to fronting Australian supergroup The Dead Daisies, said in a statemement.
“The results from numerous MRIs, CT scans, and an echocardiogram have alerted my medical team that I need another open-heart surgery.
“I really have no option and no choice as health is my number one priority. Grateful to have been chosen with a life full with the gift of music… Thank you for walking beside me.”
In 2013 Hughes underwent surgery to treat an enlarged aorta.
He played one show with the Dead Daisies in May at St Charles, Illinois and was to play another in California in October. That has now been cancelled.
