SAMMY Hagar has expressed disappointment he and Michael Anthony have so far been excluded from a new VH project being curated by drummer Alex Van Halen.

Alex, 72, recently reveal he and collaborator Steve Lukather were looking for a singer to work with them on material which includes unfinished work from the late Eddie Van Halen.

“To me, it’s an Alex Van Halen project and it’s not necessarily a Van Halen project but I guess we’ll see if it ever sees the light of day,” Hagar told the Rock Of Nations with Dave Kinchen and Shane McEachern podcast.

“But I’m disappointed that Mike and I wouldn’t be invited. It’s, like, what? Are you kidding me? We’re still alive. We’re out here doing it. We’re playing those songs. We can still do it, you know?”

However, 78-year-old Hagar suggests in the latest issue of Classic Rock that he does not want to work with Alex again, commenting: “I see Dave Gilmour say ‘I will never work with Roger Waters again … and I know what he means. I feel the same about Alex Van Halen. They’re negative people.”

Meanwhile 71-year-old Anthony believes the new project should be instrumental.

“The way I personally feel about it is, if they wanted to do it justice, to just finish it up as a great instrumental nod to Eddie,” Anthony told WNCX.

“Because getting a new singer in there, we’re not forming a new band, and then you’ve got to work on lyrics and all that stuff. And who knows when anything would be put out at that point.”
