IF BEAU Rollings or Rory Culbert want to go to a big concert, the AFL or rugby league State of Origin their native Perth at any time for the rest of their lives, a night “Chasing Light” will make it difficult.
Because after climbing a tower Optus Stadium during the Metallica concert at Optus Stadium on November 1, they have been banned from the all-purpose, 70,000 capacity venue for life.
Rollings, 20, and Culbert, 23, went before Perth Magistrates Court last week and received a thorough dressing down from judge Ruth Dineen.
“It was an incredibly stupid thing to do and a good way to ruin your night out,” Dineen told the pair, who had been arrested. Dineen did order Rollings’ phone – which contained footage of the incident – to be returned. The police had sought to destroy it.
The pair jumped a security fence and climbed the tower at 10.30pm, remaining there for about 20 minutes before returning to ground level. They were charged with trespassing.
Rollings told the court he had been drinking before the climb. Dineen did not record a conviction against him, acknowledging the affair had been a “sobering experience”.
Video below shows them climbing during the song “One”.
