THERE is no shortage of doubters but Ozzy Osbourne insists he will be behind the microphone when he and Black Sabbath bid a joint farewell to performing live on July 5.
Guest performers from around the world, from Guns N’Roses and Tool to Soungarden and Sammy Hagar, will be performing at Villa Park in what is being billed as the greatest heavy metal show ever.
But Osbourne, 76, is dogged by health issues and some of the artists attending, along with industry pundits, have expressed reservations about the extent to which he will be involved.
The Guardian are running an exclusive interview with Osbourne on Friday and have published a news story using some quotes from it.
“I’ll be there, and I’ll do the best I can. So all I can do is turn up,” Osbourne told the newspaper.
“You wake up the next morning and find that something else has gone wrong. You begin to think this is never going to end.
“I have problems walking. I also get blood pressure issues, from blood clots on my legs. I’m used to doing two hours on stage, jumping and running around. I don’t think I’ll be doing much jumping or running around this time. I may be sitting down.
“We’re only playing a couple of songs each. I don’t want people thinking ‘we’re getting ripped off’, because it’s just going to be … what’s the word? … a sample, you’re going to get a few songs each by Ozzy and Sabbath.”
