VINCE Neil has revealed he suffered a stroke last year that left him unable to walk, shedding light on the “medical procedure” that postponed Motley Crue’s Vegas residency back in March.
“My whole left side went out,” Neil told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I had to learn to walk again, and that was tough.”
“The doctors said they didn’t think I’d be able to go back on stage again. I go, ‘No, no, I’m gonna do it. Watch and see’.”
The singer confirmed the group postponed the residency to September so he could focus on recovery in his Nashville home. It finally kicked off on September 12 and you can check out fan-filmed footage below.
Vince explained that after the initial total paralysis, he was wheelchair-bound for a while, but ultimately managed to get back on his feet and even start running with the help of a local football coach.
“It takes a while to get your brain to start moving your legs,” Vince said, adding, “You try to walk but it doesn’t come out right. It’s been tough, but I’m back. I’m 90, 95 percent to where I was before, and it’s going to be great.”
Vince wrote in the original announcement via social channels, “To all the Crüeheads who were looking forward to see us this Spring, I’m truly sorry. My health is my top priority so I can bring you the awesome shows you deserve, and I can’t wait to return to the stage. Thank you for all the well wishes that keep reaching me. Your support means more than you know.”
The rest of Crue has apparently respected Neil’s privacy, only wishing him speedy recovery without going public with any details.
While he has had his share of health-related issues, Neil did not suffer from similar problems in the past. In October 2021, he fell off the stage during a performance in Tennessee, breaking several ribs.
Motley Crue has reunited in 2018 after wrapping up their farewell tour in 2015. In 2023, the band’s original guitarist Mick Mars announced his retirement following years of health struggles. Mick was replaced by guitar champion John 5, first as a touring member and then a full-on member.
Beyond the Vegas residency, the group has zero confirmed upcoming gigs. The Vegas shows will start on September 17 and stretch across eight gigs at the Dolby Live in Las Vegas.
Last year, the band has announced Cruseum, the official online virtual Motley Crue museum that showcases rare items from the band’s private archives. This includes gear, stage clothes, photos, handwritten lyrics, tour memorabilia, and more.
