IRON Maiden’s manager has assured fans in Australia and New Zealand the band won’t break their November dates to attend their Rock’N’Roll Hall of Fame induction.
Having dismissed the institution for many years, the heavy metal legands will finally be recognised by it on November 14 in Los Angeles. That’s on a day off between a Melbourne and Sydney show.
Ron Smallwood says in an email to Billboard the band won’t be dashing across the Pacific for 24 hours to receive their gong.
“As the most observant have already noticed, the band will be on tour in Australia around the November date of the Induction ceremony for the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in Los Angeles,” he wrote.
“In accepting, Iron Maiden made it very clear to the R&R HoF that the fans always come first and that the shows will of course go on.
“We would like to assure all our fans in Australasia that the Australian and New Zealand dates will remain unaffected and we look forward to bringing the Run For Your Lives Tour to them on the penultimate stop of our 50th anniversary celebrations.”
It has been suggested that members of the band who are being recognised but who are not currently in Iron Maiden may accept on their behalf. These include singer Blaze Bayley, guitarist Dennis Stratton and drummer Nicko McBrain.
Bayley told Metal Hammer of his induction: “It’s crazy, really!
“When I started out, I just wanted to be like Ronnie James Dio, and Dio is in the Heavy Metal Hall Of Fame and so am I. The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is another level entirely, it’s not really ‘rock’n’roll’ as we think of it, it’s the music business hall of fame because it has everybody. So it’s absolutely wild!”
