IT’S been a little longer between posts this time around. Another big metal festival and a slew of releases, plus a big tour fill up this update.
First up, Brisbane’s annual Necrosonic Festival returns on August 22 at the Mansfield Tavern. Co-headlining this year’s event will be US death metallers Rivers of Nihil and Psycroptic. The bill also includes a wealth of acts who have reformed especially for the day, including Helm, Lynchmada and Minus Life. Five Star Prison Cell have also reunited to play the festival. Other bands appearing include Segression, Witchskull, Gravemind and Worldfucker, the current musical project of former Damaged frontman Jamie Ludbrook. Head to the official website for full details.
The festival will be the final stop on the just-announced five-date tour by Rivers of Nihil and Psycroptic, a huge bill that also includes Growth and Slaughtercult. The tour hits Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane starting August 13. Tickets go on sale March 6.
Intent to Harm is a brand new band out of Brisbane featuring members of Internal Devour. Formed by guitarist Matt Turkington after recovering from life-changing surgery, the band’s first single of death-tinged hardcore “Drained of Life” is now available. Download from Vicious Instinct Records.
The new release from Brisbane’s legendary and influential Dreamkillers is now available. Proiphys Cunninhamii is out on all digital platforms now, featuring the singles “Mulberry Sky”, “Close Down the Circus” and “Shirley”. A deluxe edition on vinyl and CD with extra tracks will be available from June 5.
Melbourne’s hard-riffing instrumentalists Grim Rhythm release their new album next week. completely self-recorded, produced and mixed by the band, Forever Eating Shit is their first new music in eight years. Out March 11.
Currently on a two month European run with Crystal Lake and Miss May I, Brisbane metal merchants Diesect have issued a deluxe edition of their most recent EP. Featuring three extra, previously unheard tracks, the new version of Hide From the Light now includes the latest single “No Home Left to Find”. Diesect will be on tour with Smite in April.
Sydney rock animals Avalanche have just completed dates in the UK with mentors and admirers Airbourne. Their debut full length album Armed to the Teeth is available now.
