WE covered Powderfinger when they first started to break out nationally in 1990 and as we say – once a HM band, always a HM band!
And the wildly popular Brissie rockers have announced a comeback, 16 year after their last show in 2010. By the time the comeback happens, it will actually be 17 years as the reunion tour isn’t getting underway until August or September 2027.
As is the way these days, the band dropped ‘hints’ intended to go viral – billboards being lifted into place, videos of the band together that cut out before they said anything, ghost Instagram accounts. A ‘tip-off’ or 20 to the media was not beyond the realms of likelihood.
“We always said that if we were going to get back together to do some shows that you guys would be the first to know,” singer Bernard Fanning said via social meida.
Lead guitarist Darren Middleton added: “We’re going to build something pretty special just for you guys.
“We’ll see you from the stage.”
The lineup of Powderfinger, who have won 18 ARIA awards, is rounded out by bassist John Collins, guitarist Ian Haug and drummer John Coghill.
In their first run of 21 years, Powderfinger enjoyed five consecutive no.1 albums. They briefly reunited during Covid in 2020 for a charity livestream.
