QUIET Riot’s new 23-year-old singer has earned rave reviews in his first handful of shows with the pioneering metal band.
John Torra made his official live debut on October 1 at the Cherokee Event Center in Oklahoma, stepping in to replace departing veteran vocalist Jizzy Pearl.
Journalist Andy Greene wrote in Rolling Stone that Torra’s sudden ascension “is basically a real-life version of the 2001 Mark Wahlberg movie Rock Star“.
The New York native earned his spot after submitting a strategic online audition video that quickly caught the attention of the band’s management.
Following the debut, one enthusiastic fan praised Torra’s uncanny vocal style on social media, writing: “If I close my eyes I would swear it was Kevin (DuBrow) singing.”
The band’s second tour fixture on October 3 at The Family Arena in Missouri further solidified the young singer’s position with the heavy metal legends.
Another concertgoer commended the performance on a music forum, commenting, “2nd show? that was impressive, kid got’s the pipes.”
Speaking to media about his lifelong devotion to rock music, Torra recalled his reaction to hearing Van Halen as a child, stating: “When that happened, everything changed.”
Industry commentators noted that Torra’s youth and stamina provided a perfect visual complement to veteran bassist Rudy Sarzo’s legendary stage presence.
The band will return to the stage on October 16 at the historic Whisky A Go Go in California, with public sentiment firmly behind the new frontman.
