THE ALL-pervasivenss of Iron Maiden in popular culture continues with a documentary due on original singer Paul Di’anno and ex-drummer Nicko McBrain announcing a biography.

Di’Anno – Iron Maiden’s Lost Singer will be released on Blu-ray and digital-on-demand on June 9. He was the Irons’ singer between 1978 and 1981 and died in 2024 of an aortic dissection after a period of ill-health.

It’s not a beginnging-to-end story. Instead it details the stories of a couple of fans who help Di’Anno back to health and get him back on the road after a difficult period in his life.

Steve Harris, Gene Simmons, James Hefield and members of Slayer, Megadeth and Sepultura are all interviewed.

Director Wes Orchoski, who did Lemmy, said in a media release: “Paul was waiting for surgeries that doctors in the UK would not greenlight. He was in an incredibly dark place.

“But once he got to Croatia, fans and doctors gave him the hope he was desperately searching for. It was beautiful to witness. I wanted to make a film that was unlike any rock doc you’ve ever seen. And in the end, I think we got there.”

McBrain, meanwhile, has called his book Hello Boys and Girls. It’s out in October via Harper NonFiction.

“I’m very excited and honoured to be working with the wonderful HarperNonFiction team on my very own book full of lots of fun stories, anecdotes and of course my incredible experiences with some of the greatest musicians and performers from the seventies, eightes and beyond!” McBrain, 73, said,

“I am blessed to be able to finally share my path to where I am today, in my own words, with the world.”
