SINGER Mitch Malloy – who once auditioned for Van Halen and recorded a demo with them – has set tongues wagging with a social media post in which he is photographed with drummer Alex.
Alex Van Halen is working on a project which he says utilises unfinished material by his late brother Edward. While Toto’s Steve Lukather is one conformed participant, Alex has described difficulty finding a vocalist. Bad Company’s Paul Rodgers has turned him down.
“Happy birthday brother @alexvanhalenofficial was great to see and hang with you again. @edeng_malloy.” Malloy posted on Facebook and Instagram. Eden, who is pictured, is Malloy’s daughter.
This of course led to speculation as to why the musicians were catching up. “I hope you are singing on the new Van Halen album,” one Instagram follower posted in the comments.
Musician Jeff Paris commented on Facebook: “If it’s in the works Mitch wouldn’t put it out there until Alex does first” and Malloy responded: “I would never and he knows it. I wish everyone did.”
Hot Metal then chimed in: “yeah well … that comment is hardly gonna quell any rumours is it?” Malloy fired back: “I get attacked for wishing my friend happy birthday cause his last name is Van Halen. ? Maybe I should have asked you first if it’s OK? ”
Undeterred, we tried to pin Malloy down, asking: “So … you did not and are not playing on the new album?”
Malloy did not respond.
