DEFTONES are on anything but autopilot on their current Australian tour, even nodding towards Metallica’s ‘no repeat’ credo when they play a city more than once.

And at QODOS Bank Arena on May 3, they unfurled a Smiths cover – “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” – for the first time in two years. The Sacramento legends recorded it on their B-sides And Rarities offering in 2005 and played it at Coachella in 2024.

The tour continued in Brisbane last night – aside from the eclectic setlists, there’ve been some other unconventional aspects.

In Melbourne, the band did a collab with a doghnut shop, Hector’s Deli, to produce the “milk of the madonna tres leches doughnut” which was available for a few days.

While night one in Sydney was deemed by fans to be more predictable in terms of material, night two kicked off with three straight songs from the Private Music album released last year.

The two night run at Boondall continues tonight (Thursday) before the party moves to Mebourne for another double-shot. Based on Sydney, expect the unexpected.
