MELBOURNE City Council wants Ackadacka to climb onto the Swantston Street flatbed truck one more time.
The 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic rock videos of all time – AC/DC performing “It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock’n’Roll)” on the back for a truck driving through the Melbourne CBD – is coming up and the band is heavily tipped to return to Australia at the end of the year.
That led to a light bulb appearing over the heads of councillors.
“Recreating that iconic moment on Swanston St would be unforgettable,” mayor Nick Reece told the Herald-Sun.
“From that flat-bed stage, the band took on the world – and to this day, remain the most influential Aussie rock band of all time. Next year marks the 50th anniversary and I’d love to see the city painted black and the volume turned up to 11.”
The video – then referred to a “film clip” – was recorded specifically for Countdown on February 23, 1976. It famously featured the Rats Of Tobruk pipe band, was directed by innovative Countdown man Paul Drane, used just one cameraman and cost $380.
Hot Metal understands AC/DC will tour Australia in November and December. They have been linked to the Supercars grand final in Adelaide on November 30.
The greatest Aussie band of all time is currently in the middle of their second run through Europe after playing select markets in the US. They finish in Edinburgh – near the Youngs’ ancestral home – on August 21.
