IT’S GOING to be one of the biggest heavy metal shows ever.
Genre progenitors Black Sabbath will play one final show – with ailing singer Ozzy Osbourne upfront and Bill Ward returning to the drum stool – at Villa Park in their home town of Birmingham.
Not only is Osbourne – who suffers from Parkinson’s also on the bill as a solo performer but acolytes such as Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Alice In Chains, Gojira, Halestorm, Mastodon, Billy Corgan, Sammy Hagar, Wolfgang Van Halen and Slash are also listed.
The number of artists suggests a tribute concert with Sabbath not playing a full set.
Guitarist Tom Morello. who will also perform, said simply: “This will be the greatest heavy metal show ever.”
It’s a charity show, too, with all proceeds going to Cure Parkinson’s, the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice.
Osbourne was quoted as saying: “It’s my time to go ‘Back To The Beginning’… time for me to give back to the place where I was born. How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”
